Meeting the Needs of ELs or an equivalent FOUNDATIONS AND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION must be completed prior to Literacy Development for CLD Students and/or Instructional Strategies and Assessment for CLD students. This course supports participants in developing instructional competency in reading/writing approaches for CLD students and examines teaching reading/writing across the curriculum. This 1 credit (15 hours) course partially fulfills the 3 course (45 hours) Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education requirements for licensure with the Colorado Department of Education for educators endorsed in elementary, science, social studies or English seeking renewal of their professional license.

The Secondary Literacy Design Workshop (2020 Literacy Standards, Workshop Model, CRE, and Disciplinary Literacy) will provide a framework for participants to engage in the components of a rich, authentic secondary literacy environment. Participants will engage in research and instructional design that supports authentic and meaningful learning experiences; the learning experiences will include opportunities for framing, exploration, and project-based learning.

This course will allow educators to deepen their understanding of the reading components. Participants will be given the opportunity to explore the components of Balanced Literacy and reflect on their own individual practices. ​

Colorado Writing Project is based on the premise that teachers of writing should be writers themselves. That is why in all courses participants not only explore current research on writing instruction and successful classroom practices, they also write daily and participate in a writer’s workshop.

During this workshop you will learn about the components of the Independent Reading Level Assessment (IRLA) and the digital data warehouse, SchoolPace. You will learn what the assessment means for you, or teachers, and the students of your school. Additionally, you will learn more about the role of the Literacy Coach in your building and how to best leverage the position in order to build capacity within your teachers.

During this workshop you will learn about all the components of the Independent Reading Level Assessment (IRLA). You will learn how to find the independent reading level of a student, and what you will focus on in order for the student to move forward as a reader. We will spend some time going through the major learning in each color level and some strategies you can use to work with students individually or in small groups.
